Official Opening Ceremonies & Award Presentations
 
The official kickoff of the 2010 conference, in addition to featuring welcoming remarks, marks the first round of awards. Among those to be presented are the Powers Awards, which honor individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the industry in the areas ofSales, Marketing, Operations, Administration and Community and Public Relations.
 
Trade Show Opening
 
The NASPL Trade Show is an opportunity to view all of the new products and services being offered by the vendor community. Throughout the entire conference, several activities are planned in the trade show areas which are sure to be exciting, educational and entertaining.

Combined Vendor Event
 
Enjoy an evening of food, fun and camaraderie hosted by Pollard Banknote, Intralot, Scientific Games and GTECH. This event, which will be at The B.O.B., a collection of restaurants and clubs just a short walk from the Amway Grand Plaza Hotel.
 
 
Thursday, September 23

Partner Program featuring a Meijer Gardens tour, luncheon cruise on the Grand Lady Riverboat, and shopping in the charming town of Holland. Transportation to and from the Amway Grand Plaza Hotel will be by chartered bus.

Keynote Address

Remember the Pepsi Generation and the Pepsi Challenge? How about the “1984” commercial that introduced the world to Apple desktop publishing? Join John Sculley, former Senior Vice President of Marketing and CEO for the Pepsi-Cola Company and former CEO of Apple Computer, for marketing perspectives on our industry.

Mega Millions/Powerball cross-sell initiative and the prospects for a new US national game

Hear about the latest results of the cross-selling efforts of Mega Millions and Powerball, as well as the latest update on the development of the new U.S. national game. Included in this session will also be an update of the Canadian national game.

4-minute vendor presentations

Hear brief summaries from trade show exhibitors on their products and services available to our industry. These presentations will be scheduled throughout the Conference.

Announcement and Presentation of Best New Instant and Best New Online Games

Each year, NASPL provides an opportunity to lottery organizations to submit what they determine to be their best new instant and online games. This category is judged based on the successful results of the games. Don’t miss this opportunity for new game ideas for your lotteries!

Trade Show and Luncheon

Looking for a new way to promote a game, or maybe the latest on-line terminals available? Be sure to visit the trade show and take in all that our vendors have to offer. The NASPL Trade Show has it all!

Retailer Panel

Most of us think of our players as our customers. But what about our retailers? The more than 225,000 businesses that sell our product are a vital component to our success. Join representatives from various retailer organizations to learn their perspectives on how the lottery can improve its business practices and stimulate sales growth.

Panelists include Jane Shallal and Ed Weglarz, Associated Food and Petroleum Dealers, representing gas stations/convenience stores; Art Dore, representing a range of businesses including restaurants; and Larry Hauck of 7-Eleven and Lundy Edwards of Forward Corporation, representing large retail chains.

Keynote Address

Listen to Dr. Nancy Tennant, Corporate Vice President for Leadership and Strategic Competencies for the Michigan - based Whirlpool Corp., the force behind the creation and implementation of major innovations that resulted in what has been called one of the largest change efforts in corporate history. Dr. Tennant, named one of the 25 innovation champions in the world by Business Week magazine, will share thoughts on innovation and change in the lottery world.

Player Interactive Discussion

Participate in a discussion on how to integrate interactive marketing components into a marketing plan. Presenters are Matt Kates of ePrize, speaking on engaging players with an Internet-based rewards and second chance program; Jeff Barela of Dovetail, speaking on leveraging a centralized marketing database to guide marketing decisions and maximize ROI; Mitch Frazier of Exact Target, speaking on nurturing a personalized dialogue with players via email and text messaging; and Larry Larsen of the social networking platform Facebook.
